ShearerDowie-1Friday 9th March will undoubtedly go down as a very memorable date in the history of our young charity. With the magnificent support of our families, our friends, our colleagues and local fans and followers of the legendary Alan Shearer, we successful raised over £20,000 for Ups’n’Downs and the Down’s Syndrome Association.

The invaluable contributions made by the event committee, the DSA and all those people and businesses who donated raffle and auction items, ensured that our event at Wicksteed Pavilion was a phenomenal success. The Trustees of Ups’n’Downs would like to place on public record, their sincerest thanks for the support received from everyone involved.

It was with a tremendous amount of pride that we were able to secure the time of two true football legends for the Black Tie dinner last Friday.

Both Alan Shearer and Iain Dowie took time out of their very busy personal and professional schedules to lend their support to our cause and both ended up thanking us for inviting them at the end of a memorable evening for everyone who attended.

Amongst the many highlights of the evening was, of course, the hugely entertaining interview of Alan and Iain by former Sky Sports frontman Matt Lorenzo. Both candid and humorous, the two former international strikers recalled some of their most memorable and magical moments during their time at the very top of the English game as players, managers and pundits. Comedian (not former Aberdeen footballer!) Willie Miller contributed with 30 minutes of hilarity which local DJ Aaron Phillips concluded an unforgettable evening’s entertainment.

And amongst all the on-stage activity, we even managed to squeeze in a few fundraising activities including raffles and auctions which helped us to achieve our target and keep the charity in a healthy financial position for the years to come, together with making a sizeable donation to the national Down’s Syndrome Association.

Thanks again to everyone who attended and supported the evening and please watch this space for details of future events.
